It is with a heavy heart and a deep pain that I write yet another note about the tragic and unnecessary deaths of young men. We stand in solidarity with the family of Daunte Wright and the family of Adam Toledo. Daunte and Adam should be with their families today. And yet they are not. We are so proud of Journee Rogers! She represented #KIPPOKC in the Oklahoma City Thunder Regional Spelling Bee where she made it to the second round!

Recognizing that a just world is one in which George Floyd’s life would never have been taken, the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is a crucial step towards change, accountability, and justice. While we applaud this ruling, we know that this murder continues to impact all of us. Change is only possible when we hold people accountable for their crimes. There remains much work to do to evaluate and advance systems that value the lives of Black Indigenous People Of Color. We will continue to strive for a world where Black and Brown children wake up daily with no doubt that their lives matter.

Don’t forget that there is an important local election tomorrow, April 6th! If you live in OKC, you could have a OKCPS School Board election, Oklahoma City Council election, Metro Tech Board election and/or various other runoff races. KIPP OKC is very thankful to have assisted nearly 40 alumni by donating $15,000 to those impacted by COVID. As of now, there are no more funds available. Please check back periodically in case we receive more funding.
