From Thay's Teachings on Love: When the energy of love is strong in us, we can send it to beings in all directions. But we must not think that love meditation is only an act of imagination - we imagine our love as being like waves of sound or light...Sound and light penetrate everywhere, and our love must do the same. We have to observe whether our mind of love is present in our actual contact with others. "
More From Thay's "From Reconciliation: Healing the Inner Child": Every time you give your internal formations a bath of mindfulness, the blocks of pain in you become lighter. So give your anger, your despair, your fear, a bath of mindfulness every day. After several days or weeks of bringing them up daily and helping them to back down again, you create good circulation in your psyche.
From Thay's "From Reconciliation: Healing the Inner Child": Whatever we're doing, whether its cooking, sweeping, washing, walking, being aware of our breathing, we can continue to generate the energy of mindfulness, and of mindfulness is the seed of concentration. With these two energies, we can liberate ourselves from afflications.

With Thay's lucid prose, deep contemplations, and powerful examples from his own life, "Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet" presents the radical insights we each need to cultivate, in order to find a just, healthy, and compassionate way forward, for ourselves and for the planet. Andrea Miller interviewed Thay years ago and published his answers recently in Lion's Roar Special Addition. Q: Is living in the present moment at odds with enjoying the media? Can we be mindful and still enjoy the internet and TV and movies and books? THAY: There are good books and movies that you can enjoy. That's okay - it's good to enjoy them. But sometimes the qualify of the film or book is not good at all, yet you don't turn it off because if you do, you will have to go back and experience the suffering inside you. That is the practice of many people in our society, The Buddha recommended that we should not try to run away from ourselves, but learn to take good care of ourselves and transform our suffering.
